Nestled in with the other cottage gems on Broadway Street, Barnacle is a bit of a “sleeper”, until you walk inside. It is impeccably maintained with comfortable furnishings and handsome antiques. All surfaces have been recently painted with soft colors making this sweet cottage bright and cheerful.
As you walk into the cottage, you are immediately delighted that this will be your vacation nest for your stay in Bayside. A well appointed living room has ample furniture, lovely wood floors and lots of daylight from the many windows. A dining nook is just off the living room with a small but well equiped galley kitchen open to the rest of the first floor living space.
The kitchen has all natural birch wood cabinets, adequate cabinet space including a small “pantry” cabinet for food storage and well provisioned for gourmet cooking. The kitchen feels larger with its vaulted open ceiling and skylight revealing the old framing of this historic cottage.
Just off the kitchen is a terrific new bathroom with natural wood walls and pine bead board wainscotting , wood floors and vaulted ceiling. A skylight fills the bath with warm sunlight.
The fixtures are reproduction antiques with graceful lines and ample space. A new full size shower is off to the rear of the bathroom.
Off the kitchen is a small but cozy deck large enough for morning coffee and evening dinner for two with views of the Bay and Islesboro Island as the backdrop. The deck has good privacy from most of the neighbors.
Heading upstairs to the bedroom, you have a large and comfortable sleeping and lounging space. The room has lots of character with vaulted bead board ceilings, several windows and skylights. There is plenty of storage in antique bureaus and a cozy small closet for your dressier clothing. We just love the light in this room.
This well cared for cottage is perfect for a couple or family with a young child looking to have a great getaway in Historic Bayside. It is just a few steps (literally ) from Ruggles Park but in the way it has been designed by the owners, provides a sense of privacy and coziness.
If you are looking for a charming but well appointed and renovated cottage, Barnacle is a great choice.
