If you have ever looked through an issue of Cottage or Coastal Living magazines, Sea Turn cottage could be considered worthy as one of their featured cottages.
A complete rebuild of this cottage took place in 2008 and it came into our inventory in Aug of 2009. The owners added new baths, new complete floor plan, huge wrap around porch keeping with the architectural integrity of the typical
(not so typical) Bayside cottage.
As you enter the antique turquoise painted front door, you are welcomed by a comfortable and well furnished living and dining nook with white washed walls and ceilings and painted wood floors. Nicely appointed with crisp white furniture, the living area has many windows and large French doors that overlook Penobscot Bay. There is also a gas fired stove to provide warmth on cool evenings. All of the interior decorations add to the seaside feeling and ambience of the living space.
The galley kitchen is just off the dining/living area and has all new appliances including a dishwasher. There are water views for the chef, while preparing a lobster dinner that will be served on the wicker dining set on the covered porch! A small deck right off the kitchen is just large enough for the gas grill.
Through the back of the kitchen is a bathroom with full oversize standing shower – a door on the other side of the bathroom takes you in the first floor bedroom with queen bed. This light and bright bedroom provides a comfortable spare room for those who don’t want to head up and down the stairs. All walls and ceilings are whitewashed keeping with the cottage feel.
Going up to the second floor, a hallway leads you to the double bedroom with interesting exposed rafters showing the details of some of the gables that add to the architectural elements of this cottage. Again with wonderful furnishings and some antiques.
Heading in the opposite direction in the upstairs hall, a full size stackable washer/dryer leads to another full bathroom with tub/shower that ultimately leads to the master bedroom suite. This bedroom runs along the entire side of the building that faces the ocean. There is plenty of room for a dressing area, seating area with many windows that open up views to the water and evening ocean breezes. All rafters and gables were left uncovered showing the complexity of roof lines adding to the cottage feel. All walls and ceilings are whitewashed and a ceiling fan in place to keep the room fresh and cool. this bedroom has outstanding waterviews.
The sizeable wrap around porch adds to the cottage look and livability. The views are fantastic north to Belfast and east to Islesboro Island, Sears Island, Blue Hill and beyond. A wonderful dining/seating area is facing the ocean with comfortable wicker furnishings, a mahogany planked deck, white painted railings and attractive rafter overhangs. Afternoon showers will not force you indoors as you watch the weather move over the Bay.
